INAUGRAL WOMEN's U23 COMPETITION - EASTER 2025
Reflecting on the Day’s Objectives
1. For everyone involved to have fun
- Mission accomplished! The atmosphere was buzzing with camaraderie across clubs and teams.
- Teams with no prior training together played with skill, passion, and cohesion.
- The Barbarians side, made up of players from 7 different clubs, gelled remarkably – a true “one team” performance.
- For many coaches, it was a proud moment to see players they’ve known since U13 now excelling in senior women’s rugby.
2. To introduce U18 players into the women’s game and bridge the gap
- The U18s stood out! Playing against older, more experienced athletes didn’t faze them.
- Positive feedback from parents and spectators who praised the high standard of rugby and the boost in confidence this gave to young players.
3. To welcome back university players and reconnect them with Surrey clubs
- Players from universities across the UK returned, showcasing skills developed at uni level.
- Many clubs reported this event helped rebuild links with alumni players and refresh their player databases – vital for future engagement.
4. To encourage players to aspire to Surrey Women’s representative rugby
- The coaches can only select from those who sign up – and there were plenty of standout performances that deserve a closer look.
- Players: sign up, share the link, and take your chance! Let Surrey coaches see what you can bring to the team.
5. To establish an U23 Women’s competition that can grow
- With your support, this can become an annual highlight – not another six-year wait!
- Our shared goal: make Surrey U23 the pinnacle of age-grade women’s rugby in the country.
Thank You
To every player, coach, club, and supporter: thank you for making this event a huge success. The future of women’s rugby in Surrey looks bright!
