Surrey Rugby Senior Women – Coaching Roles

Surrey Rugby are recruiting four volunteer coaches to join the coaching team for the Surrey Senior Women's Squad for the 2019-20 Season.

Attack Coach

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the delivery of attacking framework with direction from Head Coach around attacking principles
  • Responsible for leading attack focused games within training sessions
  • Assist coaching team in performance analysis of games and training
  • Act as a mentor to 25% of players within the squad, providing specific and detailed feedback around super strengths and 'work ons' for individuals
  • Assist the head coach and coaching team on match days
  • Assist in the coaching of either the forwards/backs units


Experience/Qualifications

  • Minimum of level 2 RFU qualification – ideally working towards level 3
  • Have been actively coaching within the last season/currently coaching
  • Worked within the 15 a side game
  • Be experienced in the coaching of either backs or forwards to a competitive standard


Defence Coach

  • Assist in the delivery of attacking framework with direction from Head Coach around defensive principles
  • Responsible for leading defensive focused games within training sessions
  • Assist coaching team in performance analysis of games and training
  • Act as a mentor to 25% of players within the squad, providing specific and detailed feedback around super strengths and 'work ons' for individuals
  • Assist the head coach and coaching team on match days
  • Assist in the coaching of either the forwards/backs units


Experience/Qualifications

  • Minimum of level 2 RFU qualification – ideally working towards level 3
  • Have been actively coaching within the last season/currently coaching
  • Worked within the 15 a side game
  • Be experienced in the coaching of either backs or forwards to a competitive standard


Skills Coach

  • Assist in the delivery of specific skills zones throughout training sessions at the discretion of the Head Coach
  • Responsible for coaching technical elements "in the moment" during game zones of training sessions
  • Assist coaching team in performance analysis of games and training
  • Act as a mentor to 25% of players within the squad, providing specific and detailed feedback around super strengths and 'work ons' for individuals
  • Assist the head coach and coaching team on match days
  • Assist in the coaching of either the forwards/backs units


Experience/Qualifications

  • Minimum of level 2 RFU qualification
  • Have been actively coaching within the last season/currently coaching
  • Worked within the 15 a side game
  • Be experienced in the coaching of either backs or forwards to a competitive standard


Performance Development Coach

  • Assist coaching team in the analysis of performance targets – tracking team goals and aims as well as working with individuals to monitor their personal development plans.
  • Assist in the coaching of sessions – coaching individuals in tactical and technical elements in relation to their personal desires and goals.
  • Assist coaching team in performance analysis of games and training
  • Film certain aspects of training and games to track key performance indicators


Experience/Qualifications

  • Experience of performance analysis through college/university
  • A desire to develop their coaching and analytical skills further
  • Be passionate about developing individuals to reach their full potential


Desirable Attributes & Skills for all four roles

  • Approachable – Must be comfortable engaging with players and coaches in challenging conversations around feedback of personal and team performances.
  • Calm – Remaining calm under pressure, especially on match days. Avoiding getting emotionally involved in the game so as to remain objective and composed throughout.
  • Self-organised – Responsible for planning sessions in advance and taking initiative to act in the best interest
  • Good levels of tactical and technical knowledge – coaches should have an appreciation for both the tactical and technical elements of the game and understand how they can coach players with these in mind.
  • Willingness to self-develop – coaches show an openness to developing their practices and opinions throughout the duration of the program
