G-Force Touch team, part of Guildfordians RFC, topped off a successful summer season by winning the Surrey and Middlesex League with a resounding 10-4 win against London Scottish Red Lions in the finals at London Wasps base in Acton last Thursday (31 August).
This was a great victory against a young London Scottish team boasting several junior internationals. G-Force were bolstered by the return of several experienced players who had missed the previous round, including captain and England international James Herd. After exchanging points in a cagey first half G-Force began to pull away in the fading light, including a score from veteran Tim Bevans who dummied his way through a narrow gap and running in to score from the half-way line.
This continues G-Force's winning ways and confirms their place as one of the South's top touch teams with the Ladies team also winning the Surrey Floodlit League Title and Cup for the second year running recently. And there is still a chance of further silverware next weekend when the team go into the title play-offs of the Steeden DTS National League having come 2nd in the final league placings.
Surrey and Middlesex League organiser, Renato Congias, said "This was our biggest summer league yet with clubs participating from across the region. The standards have significantly improved this year and to win this competition is a great achievement for G-Force."
